Starter Motor Components – Precision-Engineered Parts for Reliable Engine Ignition
Product Overview
A starter motor is an essential automotive component that converts electrical energy from the vehicle battery into mechanical energy to rotate the engine flywheel and initiate combustion. It is the core component of the vehicle's starting system, designed to deliver high torque for a short period to start an internal combustion engine.
We manufacture a comprehensive range of precision stamped and machined starter motor components for automotive, commercial vehicle, and industrial applications. Our components are engineered to meet OEM specifications and aftermarket quality standards, ensuring reliable performance, durability, and consistent fitment across leading starter motor brands including Bosch, DENSO, Hitachi, Valeo, Mitsubishi, Prestolite, Lucas, and REMY.
Key Components We Supply
Armature (Rotor)
The armature is the rotating part of the DC motor, consisting of a laminated silicon steel core with slots containing heavy copper windings designed to withstand high starting currents (200–600A). Our armatures feature symmetrical cylindrical rotor design with precision-ground shafts, copper windings for high electrical conductivity and minimal resistance, and multi-layer polymer insulation for enhanced safety and short-circuit prevention. The armature shaft is CNC-machined and precision-ground for accurate dimensions and smooth finish.
Starter Solenoid
The solenoid is an electromagnetic switch that controls the on/off of the starter circuit. It serves two critical functions: mechanically engaging the starter's drive pinion with the engine's flywheel ring gear, and electrically connecting the starter armature to the battery-. Our solenoids feature heavy-duty copper contacts, robust plunger and return spring assemblies, and are designed for reliable high-current switching.
Drive Pinion & Overrunning Clutch
The drive pinion engages with the engine flywheel ring gear to crank the engine. The overrunning clutch (one-way clutch) ensures that when the starter drives the crankshaft, power is transmitted; when the engine starts and runs faster than the starter motor, the clutch disengages to prevent reverse-drive damage to the starter. Our pinions and clutches are precision-stamped and heat-treated for durability and wear resistance.
Commutator & Brush Assembly
The commutator introduces current into the rotating armature and is composed of multiple dovetail-shaped copper sheets and mica sheets. Brushes, made from copper powder and carbon powder, transmit electrical energy to the commutator. Our brush holders feature positive holders insulated and connected to the end cover, and negative holders directly connected to the end cover for reliable current transmission.
Field Coils & Pole Shoes
Field coils are electromagnetic windings wound around pole shoes fixed to the starter housing. They generate the magnetic field necessary for motor operation. Our field coils are manufactured with high-grade copper wire and precision winding to ensure consistent magnetic field strength and motor efficiency.
Starter Housing & End Covers
Precision-stamped or die-cast housings and end covers provide structural integrity, protect internal components from dust and moisture, and ensure proper alignment of all moving parts. Our housings are available in steel and aluminum alloy options with various surface treatments including zinc plating and powder coating.
Transmission / Gear Reduction Components
Gear reduction systems consist of a gear integral to the armature shaft that engages with a larger gear splined to the pinion shaft. This feature allows higher armature rotational speed while delivering increased torque through the starter pinion to the ring gear. Our planetary gear reduction components are precision-engineered for quiet operation and maximum torque transfer.
